Waymo Engineering Managers lead teams building the most advanced autonomous driving technology in the world. Unlike many tech companies where engineering management is a lateral move, at Waymo you're leading teams whose output literally drives cars without human supervision on public roads. Waymo EMs must be deeply technical — you're expected to understand the perception, prediction, planning, or infrastructure systems your team builds and make sound technical tradeoff decisions in a safety-critical domain. Compensation follows Google EM bands (L5-L6 equivalent) with GOOGL RSUs, and the 15% target bonus is substantial at this comp level. I'll direct $3M-$6M in annual team investment, recruit elite autonomy talent, and set the engineering culture for safety-critical systems. I'm targeting $500K in RSUs over 4 years and a base of $260K. I have a Google EM offer at $[X] and a competing EM offer from [Meta/Apple] at $[Y]. Waymo's mission and technical leadership make this my top choice, but comp must be at Google EM parity." Accept at $450K+ RSUs with base above $240K.
